Six-year-old B-Girl Terra holds it down. I have been totally smitten (and slightly obsessed) with this sultry, groovy and soulful funk-rock extravaganza.
(Slightly belated) Happy New Year from Tokyo!
what the talent!!can’t believe she is only six
I wanna watch a hundred videos of this talented child. Breaking is back!!!!!!
reminded me of Missy Elliott. I enjoyed this. I am not sure why she did the throat cutting motion though. It was so classy without that.
classy? she’s 6. she’s probably not thinking about that. chill.
The cutting throat motion was her saying alright I got your attention don’t look away I’m bout to kill this shit……
If you look her up on youtube she battles way bigger dudes than herself and that is part of her *act*. I love her.
She is amazing!!!! God Bless her!!
What A Talented young lady!! ….And Adorable! 🙂
I have to agree with Melissa, the throat cutting action was of no value, to what essentially is, a fabulous piece of artistry. If anything, it serves to underscore a social stereotype that, B-dancers and Rappers for instance, are intrinsically connected to violence, gangs and the like. I would also add that the description of “sultry” is inappropriate for a six year old child. Having said all that, this young girl does have a wonderful soulful spirit. Her musicality is off the charts. I hope her guardian(s) are taking her to a chiropractor on a regular basis and enrolled her in yoga classes. I want to watch this child’s artistic abilities grow over the coming years.
Speaking from a female dancers experience myself part of the fun and excitement of battling your peers while bboy bgirl freestylin streetdancing, etc is showing attitude while you dance. The cutthroat motion is basically a challenge or a show of dominance. In other words, “i just showed your ass now sit down and let me school you”. Clearly a lot of people while admiring her dancing ability has never done this themselves. When its all said and done after a battle props are.given to both sides. However while the battle is on well…its just that, a battle
To one who might not personally have an extensive background on B-Boy’ing/StreetDance forms, the throat-cutting gesture may not do anything for you.
For a practitioner of such forms, it’s a somewhat ‘standard’ gesture, with a meaning having nothing to do with violence and gangs, other than the fact that it’s present in such forms, many of which were created by or birthed from former gang-related individuals.
It’s meanings vary from “I’m about to kill this” (‘kill’ referring to how well the following act is done), “It’s over/finished/done” (Nothing else said or done, after what is about to be said or done, is of any relevance.)
But apart from not knowing the proper context of a gesture, it shouldn’t, and frankly doesn’t, detract from the skill displayed by this young lady.
Hell, I’m pale and from Nebraska, and even I got that. You’re right. That one little move, no matter how it’s interpreted, shouldn’t take away from appreciation of this child’s amazing talent.
The person you’re replying to might be a LITTLE like those guys who call out gays as evil, when they’re getting BJs in public restrooms. I don’t think she realizes the irony of the fact that she just assumed it was a violence thing for no other reason than the fact it’s “urban dancing”.
Hey Wendy. You sound really educated. That’s great. Happy for you. However.
“If you haven’t been to the ghetto, don’t ever go to the ghetto, because you wouldn’t understand the ghetto. So stay the fuck out of the ghetto.” -Naughty By Nature
B-boying and its culture is straight ghetto. And always will be even with the whitewashing of it.
First, you find her so cute…Then, you’re just speechless!
Discovered your blog today, very nice!
Amazing .. and great job to everyone who had some kind of influence on her..
Truly amazing
pretty dumb, yeah you can teach a little kid to do just about anything. it’s akin to a 6 year old playing flawless mozart from memory. it’s a physical regurgitation likely learned from many painstaking hours of forced learning. no artistry, nothing original here. also personally i feel it cheapens the art form of breakdancing while also ignoring the social and cultural implications which are inextricable from it’s roots.
Wow, what a jaded comment. I suppose if you just watched her do 3 minutes of ballet, that she had spent time and effort learning, you would have said it was forced and there was no artistry or originality there, too?
nice reply
Well you’ve got to start somewhere. This young girl is developing a passion for a form of dance that is relatively underrated in comparison to other art forms. This piece which as you stated was clearly choreographed might be her published peice, but you don’t know what her dance process is like. Respect the girls talents, voice your opinion about creativity but don’t deny that what you just saw was impressive. In my opinion there is nothing “cheap” nor “dumb” about it.
Well said @Elondoria
It’s interesting that you’ve mentioned that Mozart example: afterall, he was also 6 years old when he composed his 1st concert… Do you think he was painforced to do that? In my opinion, this girl might well be a sort of genius of dance.
haha. dude, are you serious? let’s see you try to do that. that little girl is dope!
also, wtf are you talking about “cheapens the art form of breakdancing while also ignoring the social and cultural implications which are inextricable from it’s [sic] roots.” ???
that sentence literally makes no sense! just some vague, pseudo-intellectual bullshit!! what an idiot…
Whao? Enjoy it for what it is, a very talented young girl having fun and brightening up our day!
OMG!!! She’s AMAZING!!!
That’s the shiznit. Dam she is good

Man! This kid is wicked!
Amazing. Period. To all the sensitive folks out there, (can’t believe I actually have to break this down) the “throat cutting” thing simply means all competition is dead, non existent, your finished etc. if your not a new jack, you’d get it. PEACE!!!
Thank you Bassy Simpalah for the explanation. I thought, from the timing of the music, the ‘throat cutting” was her cue to end the ‘transition’ music and restart the ‘dance’ music.
Peace Out!!!
True story.
Wow!!! Amazing!!

Dang she’s just a kid and very talented at that. Maybe there’s hard feelings cuz one of you are the competitors that she just creamed. Anyway I hope that she loves what she does and has a great support system that is encouraging her instead of forcing her to live someone else’s precious dreams besides her own. 🙂
I will be so proud if that gir was mine that i love her so mucho without knowing her!!
Goodness. I teach five year olds every day. I am also a dancer. I have never seen a kid dance like this before without intense coaching/enthusiasm from an outside source (which I am all in favour of!) . Kids NEED an outlet that is NOT video games, kids NEED to be educated in the love of working hard to acheive something, and kids NEED to be more physical in today’s world. Well done people bringing up such a cute, musical, beautiful, sassy, little girl. You did ace! 🙂
Just absolutely FANTASTIC!!!! ❤
SKIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILS
SHES DOING ALL OF THIS WITH UN-TIED SHOE LACES & DOESN’T TRIP! THIS KIDS AWESOME!
Nah, that throat-cutting gesture just meant she’s about to slay you. Right in the feels.
SHE IS ALMOST FAMOUS, BUT ABSOLUTLY FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!
it’s a hope in this generation
Big little girl.
C’mon, y’all! What do you really think she was dancing to?
Visually, I heard Jimmy Castor’s “Just Begun” (a/k/a the tru breaker’s anthem) in her piece.
*Wink*
Terra got heart!
Now I gotsta learn how to do windmills before I dieeeee… (I mean, if a 6-year old can… I’m just sayin’!) She killt [co-wrecked spelling] the swipes and the head-spin– I mean, all of it, but…

[…] Funk is not dead […]
Forced learning? Or, could it be that she has practiced a lot because she LOVES TO DANCE?
[…] is not dead. And this six year old girl has some serious moves. Are we sure it’s not Blue Ivy? She’s really putting my d-floor antics into a harsh […]

Thanks for sharing. What a talented kid. However, perhaps you might want to re-think talking about a little girl as sultry ie “(especially of a woman or her behaviour) displaying or suggesting a strongly sexual nature.”
ALL I COULD SAY WAS: DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMM!!!
This youngin KILZ this thang— and I ain’t NEVER seen nothin like it- !
(this youngster has talent capitalized!)
FUNKTASTIC !!
I couldn’t believe my eye’s as I watched her smiling from ear to ear. She is so talented at such a young age I could just imagine what her skills are going to be like when she is older. Simply BEAUTIFUL and her way to being one of the most famous people when she gets older, cause it’s started for her already… Good Luck in whatever you do in life sweat heart but don’t ever waste that talent.. Thank You for sharing your video giving the world a chance to see how great you are and putting a smile on my face.
Talking about a 6 year old and using worlds like smitten and sultry…
I am sorry, but use some better word choices cause that’s just wrong.
