Six-year-old B-Girl Terra holds it down. I have been totally smitten (and slightly obsessed) with this sultry, groovy and soulful funk-rock extravaganza.

(Slightly belated) Happy New Year from Tokyo!

Not much to share today, so why add my thoughts when I can let Terra do the talking for me? Enjoy.

  2. AWESOME TEACH YOUR FRIENDS KEEP THEM OFF THE STREET

  3. Enjoyed it all, except the killing swipe across the neck. To see a little boy make that gesture was not charming, it was chilling. What was the point of that? Whatever the point was, I don’t think I got it.

    1. I agree it was not necessary and by the way, I believe this is a little girl if we are looking at the same dancer.

    2. Hey Griffin I think I get the neck swipe, maybe she is saying she killed it (the dance routine).

that’s right…that is what I thought she meant…that she has killed it (the dance routine)

    3. She’s dancing…dance moves. Nothing to get, except she’s an amazing dancer and it’s set to great music.

    4. You just don’t understand the culture. It’s harmless and anyone involved in that culture knows that. it’s a show of strength in competition and has been around since the very inception of breakdancing which brached of from Capoeira which in and of itself is a martial art developed as a way for African slaves to defend themselves. Don’t denounce what you don’t understand.

    5. I totally agree! I’m just a white Italian girl lol… But that gesture (whatever her or her choreographer’s playful intention) is still perceived as violent and means something VERY real in other cultures. In other neighborhoods. That move bothered me to the point of not enjoying the rest of the (truly amazing) performance.

    6. THATS A GIRL…BUT YEAH THE NECKSWIPE…UNCALLED FOR….BESIDES THAT SHE WAS GREAT…WOULD HAVE LOVED TO SEE A HAPPY EMOTION FROM HER.

  4. So talented!!!!! God Bless you baby girl

  5. Sorry, I didn’t realize it was a little girl. She is a very talented kid, but I still recommend you dump the neck swipe. It had no place in the routine. It was distracting from the dance. It made me think of the parents, not the little dancer.

    1. It’s a competition move (its over)…I understand how you feel but don’t get distracted by the beauty of it all on one dance gesture…There are thousands of people who are really swiping other people necks with weapons…peace !

    2. HEY It’s a move… it was saying “i’m killin it” thus an important part of the routine. She knows what she’s doing if she’s able to accomplish all of that. something i’m pretty sure you wouldn’t be capable of if you can’t even comprehend the cultural reference. If you don’t have anything nice to say (especially to a very hard working child) don’t say anything at all.

    3. Hey! I’m a Bgirl (break girl) and when a dancer makes gestures like this, it’s not meant to be anything nasty or disturbing. When break dancers reach certain levels, they “battle” other dancers who they look up to or think they can out dance. It’s part of the culture. A well rounded break dancer can dance to the beat, do power moves (head spins and windmills) and do footwork to the music. There is an art to batteling and often dancers will make gestures like this to call out other dancers, or to show to them that they plan on winning. She’s basically showing every element of a true break dancer (true break dancers are actually called bboys and bgirls) in doing this, because not only is she amazing with her musicality, power moves, and footwork, she has that Bgirl battle spirit. I would be scared out of my mind if I had to battle this little ball of awesome:) I hope that helps! Power to the bgirls!!!

    🙂

  7. @griffin It meant she was about to kill it, or kill the competetion. The whole reason this is amazing is because it is a child doing things that usually only people much older are capable of, so to bring that same break dancing adult attitude is all just part of the show.

  8. Get that wicked chick to the Olympics. Loving the funk. Coolest 6year old I’ve ever seen with some serious gym strength too at such a young age. It’s all about fun n laughter n I have no doubt she can make a career from her amazing talent n hard work practising 🙂

  12. excuse me while i pick my jaw up off the desk. girl is blessed with the good stuff. amazing!

  13. “It would have been more amazing if she had quoted Scripture or Shakespeare. She’s ghetto. Big deal.

    1. you’re an idiot

    2. Just another hater troll. What she’s doing is pure culture, originality and art. She is the Shakespeare of our times.

  14. yeah! and lives on! that was mean!!!!

  15. Say whhhat! Tight. #poundit

  16. This girl is inspirational
i don’t like people commenting any negativity towards her or the parents. She is obviously passionate about her gift else she wouldn’t be this amazing. Terra keep doing what your doing your amazing and an inspiration. You have a bright future ahead of you 🙂

  21. Amazing! Really made my day!!….This shows that hard work can really pay off. Viewed in London, UK!

  22. great groove, but does anyone remember the celebrity kid that broke his neck doing this stuff (ahh probably in the ’80s)?… just takes a simple mistake

  23. @ Jon-I really hope your not a Christian because for all you know she recites scripture in her sleep-u fucking fool-Jesus I’m sure is ashamed to be associated with such a Pharisee like you. Did you know Jesus was from the ghetto?! “Does anything good come from Nazareth?” U should learn the truth about your bible before you condemn beautiful children. Ps don’t you know the kingdom of God belongs to her, not you? Lastly-king David danced naked unto The Lord-so for all you know she’s worshipping the God of the TRUE scripture through her dancing you heathen. u sicken the culture of Jesus. Praise him for being so much better than what you represent.

this crew might just have some new parachute pants!

  34. Im a Christian and I thought she was great.God can use,and will use the gifts he blessed us with Jon.

  35. STRAIGHT SWAG……. That is all!

  36. I love this dance, it’s amazing. I just wanted to respond to the caption using the word “sultry”, meaning “strongly sexual in nature”. Really!!?? You watch a six year old dancing and you would think that’s sexual? I have a real problem with that description. Lets please not sexualize children, it’s very very wrong.

    1. AGREED THE WORD SULTRY DESCRIBING A CHILD IS DEF. A NO NO….

    2. Yep – 100% agreed, ”LLS”
Despite the extraordinary talent, etc etc, I was taken aback by the use of ”sultry” – and, not to mention the overtly adult undertones to this entire routine – seriously, WTF? No matter how you try justify this, it reeked of sexualising a child.
      Very wrong indeed.

  37. Oh my life! This girl is amazing, the result of a passion and hard work. I’m not a break dancing expert but I worked out the nature of the gesture straight away! Some people hey?!! Keep up the fantastic work you amazing bgirl 🙂

  38. The neck swipe was irresponsible and stupid. What a crying shame. Why you would ever teach a child to do this, I just don’t know.

  39. To all those so put off by a mere gesture, grow up. Real atrocities are committed every year to people in her culture and you simpletons don’t say a word but now you MUST speak up. Oh please. To any bible thumper on here talking crazy: how many murders are committed in the name of your religion? How many little boys raped in Catholic churches? But this dance has your ire?

  42. Reminded me of Michael Jackson at first – but as a NYC girl of the 70’s & 80’s lovin’ all that hip-hop and street dancin’ – she has an amazing talent – I hope she gets to keep doing what she loves and doesn’t get screwed over in her life by an over-bearing parent or manager – that kid is going places – forget “America’s got Talent” or those shows – she was just “WOW” 🙂
